SheetAgent for Civil 3D compared with CTC Sheet Generator, Kobi Toolkit and Plan Production
All four put Civil 3D views on sheets. They differ most after the first build: whether the sheets follow a design change, whether one tiling serves several disciplines and drawings, and whether the set is checked before it issues. The table below takes each product from its own documentation, retrieved on 5 October 2026.
At a glance
Each cell is taken from that product's own documentation; the reference after it points to the source list at the end. Not documented means we could not find the capability in the sources listed, not that it cannot be done some other way.
| SheetAgent for Civil 3D | CTC Sheet Generator (CIM Project Suite) | Kobi Toolkit | Civil 3D Plan Production | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How sheets are made | Array, path, alignment and free placement for plan sheets; Plan and Profile, Plan/Plan and Plan Duplicate; PDF detail sheets | Alignment-based and site layouts, in plan/profile, plan/plan and profile/profile configurations C1 | Create Viewport: you define a viewport and place its frame by hand, with an option to make copies K1 | Sheets created from a view frame group along one alignment A1 A3 |
| After the design changes | The tiles drive the sheets. Update Sheets updates the changed sheets, with viewports, match lines, key maps and title block fields, and skips the rest | Viewshapes are edited in model space and the changes "pushed" to sheets C2; Update Layouts is run "within the drawing that the Layouts were created" C1 | The viewport frame is a dynamic block, so moving or rotating it "is automatically reflected in the layout" K1 | "View frame groups are not dynamically associated with the sheet files that are created from them"; changes mean recreating the sheets A1 A2 |
| Several disciplines from one tiling | Project Control: one control drawing holds the tiling; every discipline inherits it and follows when it changes | Not documented C1 | Not documented K1 K4 | Not documented A1 A4 |
| Sheets across several drawings | Split at a count you choose; numbering runs straight through, and a sheet at a file boundary can read SEE C2-109 | Creates new drawings, with sheets placed "into a sheet set or directly in the active drawing" C1. Numbering and match lines across drawings: not documented; release 27.1 added a "next counter" to the layout name template C3 | Not documented K1 | A set number of layouts per new drawing, all in one new drawing, or all in the current drawing A4 |
| Match lines | Drawn where two sheets meet, labelled with the neighbouring sheet, and regenerated when tiles, the alignment or sheet numbers change | A user-defined matchline block carries the matchline, stationing, sheet name and sheet number C1 | Not documented K1 | Managed by the view frame group for a single alignment; moving them "will not affect the sheet files" A1 |
| Key maps on every sheet | The current tile hatched on every sheet, rebuilt on update; one per sector and one for the whole project | Not documented in Sheet Generator. Data Wizard, a separate tool, creates key maps as tables C1 | Not documented K1 | Not documented A1 A4 |
| Legends and repeated content | Support viewports repeat legends, keynotes and schedules on every sheet | Legends are built as tables in Data Wizard C1; placing them on generated sheets is not documented | Block, hatch and linetype legends "can be updated automatically based on the defined area or Viewport" K2 | Not documented A4 |
| North arrow and scale bar | Your own north arrow and dynamic scale bar on every sheet; the north arrow re-orients when a tile rotates | A north arrow block inserted in the layout template C1 | A north arrow in the top-left corner of each viewport K1 | A north arrow block "aligned to the north on the sheet(s)" A4 |
| Before the first sheet | Nothing to author: any title block, north arrow and scale bar you own. Set TB brings the title block in as an Xref, and Primary VP (Set Viewport Size on Multi VP and PDF/Detail) sets the maximum viewport area once on the template for every sheet | "some simple setup is required": print area, matchline and masking blocks, and a sheet template (DWT) with title blocks, viewports and print area blocks; default blocks are provided for some C1 | "you should first create Layout and specify paper size" K1 | An alignment, and a profile for sheets that show profile views A1 |
| Check before issue | Health compares the sheets with the model and the template, and each warning names the button that settles it | Not documented C1 | Not documented K1 | Not documented A1 |
| Sheet Set Manager | Creates the sheet set; Sync SSM keeps it matched to the drawing, including page number and page count fields | Places sheets in a sheet set C1; sheet sets to Autodesk Desktop Connector since 26.1 C3 | Rename Sheets renames and renumbers sheets in an existing sheet set K3 | The wizard has a Sheet Set page; afterwards "you may want to then use the Sheet Set Manager to create, organize, and manage sheet sets" A3 |

After the design changes
In SheetAgent for Civil 3D the tiles in model space drive the sheets. Move, resize or rotate a tile and press Update Sheets: the viewports, match lines, key maps and title block fields follow, sheets that did not change are skipped, and Sync SSM brings the sheet set along. When an alignment moves away from its tiles, Health raises a warning for that alignment, and Update Tiles moves the tiles to the new geometry. The full sequence is in how to keep Civil 3D sheets updated after design changes.
Across a whole project
One control drawing holds the tiling and every discipline inherits it, so demolition, existing conditions, grading, erosion control and layout sit on the same sheet boundaries. Move a tile in the control drawing and every discipline follows. Numbering runs continuously across the project rather than restarting in each file, and match lines carry across file boundaries. See coordinating sheets across disciplines.
Before the first sheet
SheetAgent for Civil 3D works with the blocks a firm already owns: any title block, any north arrow, any dynamic scale bar. Nothing is authored to a specification and nothing becomes a template first. Two settings come before the first sheet in every workflow, and every sheet inherits both: Set TB brings the title block in, as an Xref from a DWG or as the layout of a firm's .dwt, and Primary VP (Set Viewport Size on Multi VP and PDF/Detail) defines the maximum viewport area on that template. Company layer standards, if you want them enforced, are one Excel file filled in once, in a few minutes.
When SheetAgent for Civil 3D fits
It fits a firm where sheet production is the bottleneck: where projects arrive with a different title block each time, where sheets have to survive design changes late in the design phases, where one project spans several disciplines or drawings, and where nobody has time to build a template before making the first sheet. It needs Civil 3D 2025, 2026 or 2027, on Windows.
How this was compiled
Every statement about another product comes from that product's own published material, retrieved on 5 October 2026: CTC's 2027 user guide, with its Sheet Generator chapters read in full, its product page and release notes; KobiLabs' help for both of its toolkits and their product pages; and Autodesk's Civil 3D 2027 Plan Production help and AutoCAD 2027 Sheet Set Manager help. Each quoted phrase was checked on the live page. One mark is the exception: CTC's import of sheet names from a spreadsheet comes from hands-on use, because CTC's documentation does not describe it. Where a capability does not appear there, the cell says not documented. The Autodesk columns cover Plan Production and Sheet Set Manager, the tools Civil 3D provides for sheet sets. Civil 3D also carries AutoCAD Map 3D features M0, among them Map Book, a separate tool for map series, which is not part of this comparison. CTC ships a release every year and Kobi Toolkit updates during the year, so this page is checked against each new release. If something here is out of date, tell us at info@setline.ai and we will correct it.

Questions
How does SheetAgent for Civil 3D compare with CTC's Sheet Generator?
Both make sheets in Civil 3D. CTC's Sheet Generator, part of CIM Project Suite, works from matchline, masking, print area and north arrow blocks defined during setup, and updates layouts through its Update Layouts function, run in the drawing the layouts were created in. SheetAgent for Civil 3D needs no blocks authored first, updates from tiles in model space, and adds one tiling shared by every discipline and a Health check before issue; CTC's 2027 user guide documents neither.
How does SheetAgent for Civil 3D compare with Kobi Toolkit?
Kobi Toolkit's sheet tools are in its AutoCAD and BricsCAD toolkit: Create Viewport, where you place each viewport frame by hand and can add a north arrow, and Rename Sheets for an existing sheet set. Its Civil 3D toolkit lists no sheet tools. SheetAgent for Civil 3D generates complete sheet sets four ways, with match lines, key maps and title block fields, and updates them when the design changes.
How does SheetAgent for Civil 3D compare with Civil 3D's Plan Production?
Plan Production creates sheets from view frames along one alignment. Autodesk's help says view frame groups are not dynamically associated with the sheets created from them, so seeing a change on the sheets means recreating them. SheetAgent for Civil 3D updates the existing sheets from tiles in model space, and also makes sheets that need no alignment.
Which should we choose?
Start from the problem you are solving. If sheets have to survive design changes late in the project, span several disciplines or drawings, or arrive with a different title block each time, SheetAgent for Civil 3D is built for that. The fair test is the 30-day trial on a live project, against whatever you use now.
