Sheet names, numbering and Sheet Set Manager
Sheet numbers, titles and scales can be imported from a CSV before the build, edited per sheet afterwards, and renumbered across the set in one pass that cascades to key maps, labels and sheet set entries. The set is then written out to Sheet Set Manager and kept in sync as sheets are added, removed or reordered.
Importing sheet names from a CSV
Sheet numbers, titles, areas and scales can come in from a spreadsheet before the sheets are built, so they are already filled in at build time.
Step 1. Prepare a CSV with these columns, in this order: SHEET_NUMBER, SHEET_NAME, SHEET_AREA, SCALE.
Step 2. In the drawing setup section, press Import Sheet Names and pick the file.
Step 3. Do this before Build Sheets.
If the sheets are already built, use Edit Sheet Names to change the titles instead, then sync the sheet set if the drawing is linked to one.
Editing sheet names
Step 1. In the sheet management section, press Edit Sheet Names.
Step 2. Edit the titles and area text per sheet in the grid. Rows are sheets, columns are title block tags, and the fill box at the top of a column copies one value down every row.
The scale and sheet number columns are read only. Those come from the build and from Renumber Sheets.
To pull project-wide title block values from a sibling drawing, press Import from drawing inside the dialog. Template layouts and placeholder values are skipped.
Attributes backed by sheet set fields are not edited here. They are filled through the sheet set instead.
Renumbering sheets
Step 1. In the sheet management section, press Renumber Sheets.
Step 2. Set the new prefix, separator and start number. Leading zeros are kept: a start of 1 gives C4-1, a start of 01 gives C4-01.
Sheets are grouped by scale, then numbered in creation order, which is station order in alignment mode. Sheets renamed by hand are recognised and kept in number order rather than overwritten.
The new numbers cascade to what depends on them: key maps, labels and sheet set entries.
If the drawing is linked to a sheet set, press Sync SSM afterwards so the new numbers reach it.
Creating a sheet set
Step 1. Build the sheets. Sheet Set Manager only becomes available once sheets exist.
Step 2. In the sheet management section, press Sheet Set Manager. It is on the Single VP, Multi VP, PDF/Detail and Key Plans tabs.
Step 3. Answer the prompt: a new sheet set, or add this drawing's sheets to an existing one. For a new set you are also asked whether to group the sheets into subsets by prefix.
Step 4. Once linked, Sheet Set Manager greys out and Sync SSM becomes available. The two trade places on purpose: create when not linked, sync once linked.
Only sheets belonging to the current drawing are touched, so several drawings can feed one sheet set.
Keeping the sheet set in sync
Step 1. After Update Sheets, Renumber Sheets or Edit Sheet Names, press Sync SSM in the sheet management section.
Step 2. Review the analysis, which lists what is in sync and what will be added, updated or removed, then confirm. The sheet set entries are changed so the file matches the drawing.
Sync SSM only becomes available once the drawing is linked to a sheet set. If it is greyed out, press Sheet Set Manager first.
If the sheet set was edited outside SheetAgent for Civil 3D, running Sync SSM reconciles it.
If sync reports that it cannot lock the sheet set, close the Sheet Set Manager panel in Civil 3D and try again.
Sync SSM stays available while the match line trim lock greys the other buttons out, so a sync does not need an untrim first.
Page number and total sheets
Step 1. Make sure the title block carries page number and total sheet attributes, tagged along the lines of PAGE#, PAGENUMBER, TOTALSHEETS or SHEET_COUNT. They are found by tag, so there is no field wiring to do by hand.
Step 2. Press Sheet Set Manager to create or join the sheet set, then press Sync SSM. The page number and total sheet properties are created, the matching attributes are converted to fields, the sheet set is opened, and the fields are refreshed.
Step 3. Press Sync SSM again after any renumber or rename. Every sync rewrites the page number and the total from the current sheet order, even when nothing else changed.
Do not type into field-backed attributes. Edit Sheet Names lists them as managed and never writes to them, because overwriting the text destroys the field.
If the numbers still read blank after a sync, the sheet set is simply not open, so the fields cannot resolve. Open it in Civil 3D and press Sync SSM once more.
